I replaced mine with Rial Nogaro wheels (www.rial.de). Size is 17 x 8 with a wheel offset of 35mm. Made in Germany.
The tires are Continental ContiExtremeContact AS with a size of 235/45WR17. From all the reviews I read on tirerack.com and saabcentral.com, it appears to be a very good tire for a decent price. Made in Germany as well. It was important to me where the wheels and tires were manufactured. I couldn't picture my Swedish Saab with wheels from China or tires from Japan. Not that there is anything wrong with products from these countries but a European car should have European wheels. I know... it's one of my quirks..
The total for tires, wheels and shipping came to US$ 1,289.05. I sold my Saab wheels and tires on eBay for about $500 (after eBay and Paypal charges) so the net cost was about $800 for upgrading to bigger, nicer wheels and much better tires. I am very satisfied with how they look on the car and how they improved the ride quality. I also considered going up to 18" but imagined it would compromise ride comfort to much. I also like to see some tire between the wheel and road and 17" seems to be the perfect balance.
I ordered from the TireRack (www.tirerack.com). I put in my order in the evening and received a shipping confirmation around 10:00am the next morning. They were shipped out the same day with the tires installed and balanced. I was very impressed with the quick shipping. They arrived with a little less packaging than I expected. When you keep in mind the abuse a tire gets on the road, having the tires exposed like this in shipping shouldn't be a concern I suppose. The wheels and tires didn't have a scratch or mark on them and they travelled a long way from Indiana to California.
